FAQ

FAQs

  • Do other apps do all this already?
Our SWAT analysis and market research showed there is not a single app that does what we're envisioning. Additionally, most freelance apps kin to ours have have received many poor reviews for both functionality and service. We plan to learn from the failures of competition to drive our idea reach and help as many people as possible! The closest open source example that we've found is Craigslist, which I think we can all respectfully agree is in need of a 21st century face-lift.
  • How will you avoid malicious use in making JobDash a social platform?
Your safety is the most important thing to us, and we take our responsibility to create a safe space for people in the gig economy very seriously. In the final version of our app, we intend to include comprehensive yet intuitive safety guides for users, helping them to spot scams, illegal listings, and in the most extreme cases, potential traffickers.
  • What kind of jobs are allowed on this app?
We've considered lots of options for how to monetize this app in order to ensure that we have enough to meet the associated expenses. The option we're leaning toward is adding a flat service fee to each job. That's why getting in on this app now is such a good deal! One donation today could equal months or years of your life without any lame fees. There will also be an option to purchase a background check for yourself in order to boost your credibility, though this is not a strict requirement, and we intend to foot the bill for these background checks initially. If you request a background check for yourself as a worker, we will give you a week to start earning and then deduct the cost of the background check from the payment for your first job. Otherwise, we will apply a charge for the background check cost after one week.
  • Where will this app be available?
While we can't set an exact timeline yet, our ultimate goal is a nationwide rollout. In the short-term, we expect the app to be fully available within the Pittsburgh metropolitan area.
  • What kind of jobs are allowed on this app?
Odd jobs that are either "skilled" or "unskilled". It's up to you. We will leave it to your discretion to figure out what is an "odd job". While we want to stay unique and don't want this to just become like any other run of the mill job board, we also don't want to police the kind of jobs you guys come up with too strictly.
  • How are you going to verify the users?
There are two official levels of verification we know will be necessary for this app. The first is a criminal background check, conducted by a third party organization. No one will be required to purchase a background check in order to use the app, but you may feel safer knowing the full legal history (if there is any) of the person that you're working with, and others may feel safer if they know your full history too. We urge everyone to be as safe as you can until you get to know each other! The second is verifying certifications for any skilled labor being done, such as electrical work or plumbing. This is more of a long-term goal rather than a feature that will be fully functional in the initial app, our primary concern is with ensuring our users' immediate safety. If you feel comfortable hiring someone for skilled labor and think you can verify their credentials yourself, we support that! We just want you to be careful with both yourself and your property so that this app is a good experience for everyone involved.
